Silvia Brizioli

Photographer and Visual Artist

Photograhpy as a space between memory and perception.

My artistic practice moves between photography, theatre and visual narration. I create images and installations where reality and imagination meet, transforming everyday elements into visual narratives. Each project begins with an image that needs to become real. Through photography, moving image and performative research, I explore the relationship between body, space and perception. My work does not seek to reproduce reality, but to transform it into new possible worlds, creating experiences in which the viewer can enter and participate.

Works

Città Invisibili
Photography project & installation
2024- ongoing

Città Invisibili is a photographic project inspired by Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities. Through a visual reinterpretation of the literary work, the project explores the city as a symbolic space where identity, memory and imagination intersect.Combining photography and theatrical composition, the series transforms real places into imagined worlds, creating visual narratives in which bodies, architecture and fiction become part of the same dramaturgical space.

OUTERLAND
Photography project
2025

Outerland is a photographic journey through Sweden and Denmark, developed during an artistic residency in May 2025. Moving away from portraiture, the project explores landscape through an essential black and white language, focusing on silence, absence and the traces left by human presence.Empty roads, isolated houses and suspended environments become fragments of a geography of solitude, where the landscape itself becomes a space of memory and imagination.

Subkultura
Photography Project
2026

Subkultura is a photographic research developed in Ljubljana, exploring the city through the language of colour, urban identity and cultural contamination.Moving away from the author’s usual black and white aesthetic, the project investigates colour as a visual and political gesture: a form of resistance, vitality and expression within contemporary urban landscapes

Memorie di provincia: CAPITOLO 1Photography project
2026 — ongoing

Memorie di provincia explores the emotional landscape of provincial life through fragments of everyday existence. Rather than focusing on nostalgia, the project investigates the rituals, relationships and small gestures that continue to shape a disappearing social landscape.Through saturated colours and intimate observations, the series transforms ordinary moments into a collective archive of memory and belonging.

Work in progress

U(N)SENDPhotography project / Research

U(N)SEND explores the representation of the body in the age of digital image circulation. Through the tension between intimacy and visibility, the project investigates the relationship between self-perception, vulnerability and contemporary forms of looking.Developed as an expanding visual archive, the work questions dominant representations of the body by focusing on presence, imperfection and individual identity.

Disposable HolesVideo Installation / Research

About

Biography

Silvia Brizioli is an Italian visual artist whose practice moves between photography, theatre and visual storytelling.Working across photography, installation and artist books, she develops long-term research projects that explore the relationship between body, space and imagination. Rather than documenting reality, her work transforms it into visual narratives where observation and fiction coexist.Photography is conceived as a dramaturgical language: each image is built as a scene and every project unfolds as a sequence, allowing stories to emerge through bodies, landscapes and architectural spaces. This approach is deeply informed by her parallel practice as a theatre director and founder of the experimental theatre company Scuro Sperimentale, where stage and image continually influence one another.Since 2022, Brizioli has presented her work in galleries, museums, festivals and independent art spaces across Italy. Her ongoing project Città Invisibili, inspired by Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, has been exhibited in multiple venues since its debut in 2024.Her current research expands across photography, moving image and installation, investigating themes of identity, perception and the contemporary body through interdisciplinary forms of visual narration.
